When it comes to staying on a deadline, Apple seems to have some sort of a problem keeping up with that. Of course, you would have to have a deadline in order to keep to one. We all have our thoughts, through recent release history, as to when Apple will release its next generation of their devices. Usually it is during the spring and fall months. Recently, rumors suggest that some of these highly anticipated "next generation" devices might not make it on time.
This is the state of affairs as far as the iPad number 5 and the iPad Mini are concerned. It seems, from recent reports and chatter from suppliers, that the next 9.7 inch iPad is right on track for a September release. The Mini, on the other hand, with a Retina display, is a different story.
The good news is that the iPad 5 is to have a smaller bezel like the Mini's and an overall thinner design, due to the use of a redesigned backlight apparatus. This will not only make the screen a little bigger, but will help with those late night reading sessions when the device bonks you on the nose as you drift to sleep.
The iPad Mini, the 7.9 inch wonder kid of the Apple line up, is probably going to be later in the year. Digitimes claimed Mondaythat Apple has not even decided whether to go Retina but, if it does, there is a chance of a product "release" in the fourth quarter sometime.
I am not sure which would be better at this point. Wait for a Retina display Mini or go with a new generation that is lighter and faster. My initial reaction is to wait. On one hand I use my Mini much more than my normal sized iPad. It goes with me everywhere I go and I enjoy the smaller form. So, a lighter, faster iPad Mini would be perfect. On the other hand Retina display would be nice too. In the end I think waiting is ok for me. I won't have to buy two more to get Retina display and when it does come out I'll be able to have a lighter, faster Mini with Retina.
For me, its ok that Apple delays to make sure it has Retina. That doesn't mean it is any easier waiting.
